Ask: Homo Naledi – by Professor Lee Berger from Wits University
Acquire: Big News on Homo Naledi
Analyse:
The announcement was made that new species of hominin have been discovered which had more than 1500 fossils. The organizers of this task was the scientist from University of Witwaterstrand and the leader of these scientist in this task is led by Dr. Lee Berger (Skeptic, 2017). These fossils were found in the cave that was very dark inside which it is in South Africa, the country origin. Homo Naledi was unknown at first and then later on was fully described than any other hominins (Skeptic, 2017).
There were rumors that there more Homo Naledi fossils so Dr. Lee Berger decided to investigate this rumor of finding the new Homo Naledis which he really did and made another announce that he has found that them (Skeptic, 2017). These new found fossil is younger than the first one that was discovered (Skeptic, 2017).
The results were shown in three papers in the journal eLife which it was published by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Skeptic, 2017). There is also a second cave called Lesedi chamber which is recognized as a treasure trove of fossils that was announced in 2015. The Lesedi and Dinaledi chambers are regarded as the largest hominin discovery in history with enough fossils to prove. The two chambers are within the Rising Star cave system in the UNESCO world heritage site which is named The Cradle of Humanity (Skeptic, 2017). The Lesedi chamber has few fossils than the Dinaledi chambers. The another difference between the Lesedi and Dinaledi chamber is that the Lesedi chambers has partial skeletons  that has distinctive individuals such as two adults and an infant and the Dinaledi chamber has fossils that are all mixed together (Skeptic, 2017).
Apply: In the article I have learnt that scientist are able to track fossils and divide them with the chambers, date and with the ages between an adult and an infant. I have also learnt that giving up is not the answer because the scientist did not give up of trying to find another fossils which they have succeeded of finding another one.
Assess: I can conclude that trying to discover another fossil takes time as people make rumours but in the same time it is worth it when you have discovered them which you will be rewarded later on. Since there have been many fossils have been discovered through the years, it shows that there still more that can be discovered through the caves of South Africa. (Digital Citizenship Module Manual, 2016:50).
